The government agreed on a plan to regulate cryptocurrencies; it was supported by all departments except the Central Bank

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko approved a plan to regulate cryptocurrencies in Russia, RBC reports citing a document.

“Representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, the Federal Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Tax Service, the Ministry of Digital Development and the Bank of Russia took part in the preparation of the document,” the publication clarifies.

According to the source, the plan was supported by all departments, except for the Central Bank, which advocates a ban on cryptocurrencies.

On January 20, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that the FSB convinced the head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, to support a complete ban on operations with cryptocurrencies due to donations from the opposition.

On the same day, the Central Bank officially proposed to ban cryptocurrencies in Russia. The Ministry of Finance and Rosfinmonitoring did not support this idea and advocated the regulation of cryptocurrencies and mining.

On January 27, Bloomberg, citing sources, wrote that President Vladimir Putin also did not agree with a complete ban on cryptocurrencies.
