People who continued to complain of shortness of breath after suffering from the coronavirus were found to have difficulty transferring blood gases.< /p>
A hard-to-diagnose lung pathology was revealed in patients with post-ovoid syndrome — hindered transfer of gases by the blood 36 volunteers took part, 13 of whom were healthy. It is emphasized that some of the patients with mild COVID-19 continued to complain of shortness of breath several months after recovery.
«Using magnetic resonance imaging using hyperpolarized xenon gas, it was possible to to establish a significant violation of gas exchange in patients with long-term COVID-19 who were not hospitalized (11 people. — approx. ed.), while all other studies were normal», — the publication says.
The authors of the study emphasized that conventional examination methods, including computed tomography, did not reveal any abnormalities in patients.
Scientists concluded that the consequences of the identified anomaly are unknown, that requires further research in this area.
