BELGRADE, 25 Feb. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić supported an initiative whereby Russian sports clubs would play home matches on Serbian territory if their foreign rivals did not wish to come to Russia. On Friday, he addressed his fellow citizens following a meeting of the Security Council on the situation around Ukraine. Over the past two days, three such meetings have already been held. «I received information that there is an initiative … for Russian clubs to play home matches on the territory of Serbia. Since now some clubs from certain countries do not want to go to Moscow, St. Petersburg , (Nizhny) Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar… There is, apparently, an initiative by UEFA, FIBA… if everyone agrees with this, we will be a good host for everyone, if we help solve the problem in this way,» Vucic said. Earlier on Friday, he stated that Serbia would not support Western sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation around Ukraine, but supported the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state.
