MOSCOW, 28 Apr. The Saeima of Latvia adopted amendments to the Sports Law on Thursday , according to which athletes and coaches are prohibited from participating in competitions that take place in Russia or Belarus, is reported on the official website of the state body. Those who violate the ban will not be allowed to work with the Latvian national team, and will not be able to receive funds from the state or local budget to cover spending on training or competition. The ban also applies to sports teams registered in Latvia: they cannot participate in national championships, cup competitions in Russia or Belarus and international leagues, where more than half of the teams represent these countries. The amendments prohibit Latvian athletes and coaches from cooperating with sports agents from Russia and Belarus .Amendments to the Sports Law shall enter into force on the day following their publication.
