BELGRADE, Oct 31 Serbia's position on non-recognition of referendums in Donbass does not affect relations between Moscow and Belgrade, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botan-Kharchenko said in an interview.
Before the referendums in the LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the then Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovich said that Belgrade would not recognize their results, then his words were confirmed by the head of state Aleksandar Vucic.
«Unlike the West, which wants to build Serbia on a par with other countries that unconditionally support Washington and Brussels, we proceed from the fact that the best option for developing relations is with a country that preserves sovereignty is based on its national interests. This is fully applicable to Serbia. We understand that in the context of Serbian national interests, Belgrade's definition of an approach to any international issue is consistent with the Kosovo settlement. Its management emphasizes this both publicly and in contacts with us. At the same time, there is no connection between this position of Serbia and our bilateral relations,» the Russian ambassador told the agency.
