CHISINAU, Mar 14 Representatives of the Moldovan government refused on Tuesday to go to the picketers in Chisinau, the organizers of the opposition rally said they would continue the protests on Thursday, the correspondent reports.
On Tuesday, supporters and representatives of the opposition Shor party picketed the building of the government of Moldova, urging Prime Minister Dorin Recean to enter into negotiations. According to the organizers of the protest, the action was held within the framework of the «Movement for the People».
«We were waiting for Prime Minister Rechan to come to us. We see that he does not have time for us. We formed a group of negotiators, we were ready to personally go to the members of the government to once again state our demands. Unfortunately, the police received instructions not to let us through. We will not storm the government house, we are having a peaceful rally. We will come out en masse on Thursday, we call on the authorities of the country to listen to the position of the people, we call on them to fulfill the demands, we call on them not to violate our rights,» the vice chairman of the party said. «Shor» Marina Tauber.
On Sunday, at a rally, protesters put forward an ultimatum to the government to resolve the issue of paying bills for gas, electricity and heating for the population within 24 hours.
Mass protest actions of the opposition began in Moldova last spring. Numerous polls show that about 60% of the country's population doubts the ability of the ruling Action and Solidarity party to stay in power for another three years before the next parliamentary elections. Also, about 70% of Moldovans are disappointed with the policy of the authorities and almost 65% support the idea of changing the government.
