Scientists from Russia and Syria have created new materials to detect explosives

MOSCOW, April 21Scientists from the Ural Federal University (UrFU), together with colleagues from the Institute of Organic Synthesis named after the Postovsky Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Aleppo (Syria), have obtained new fluorescent materials that can be used as highly sensitive sensors for nitrogen-containing toxic and model explosives in solutions and gases. Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
The development of new sensor compositions and materials based on them to detect traces of explosives and their components is one of the important technical tasks for ensuring safety. For the detection and quantitative determination of nitrogen-containing explosives, a range of methods has been developed that involve the use of expensive and bulky equipment that is not suitable for express analysis.

The so-called fluorescent method can come to the rescue, which is characterized by simplicity of technical execution, low cost, high sensitivity to the substances being determined, which can be detected remotely by evaporating from their surface molecules.

As new sensor materials, Russian and Syrian scientists took one of the materials based on a derivative of the chemical compound pyrene, as a result, a model nitrogen-containing substance was found in extremely low concentrations. An article about this development was published in the international scientific journal Сhemosensors.
