A supersonic MiG-31 fighter-interceptor crashed during a training flight in the Murmansk region, the Defense Ministry told TASS.
Both pilots ejected. According to the governor of the region Andrey Chibis, they «did not even need hospitalization.»
The footage from eyewitnesses shows that the plane caught fire in flight, and then began to lose altitude. TASS claims that the fighter crashed into Lake Imandra near the island of Rizh-Guba, more than a hundred kilometers south of Murmansk. The photo of the wreckage was uploaded by the local telegram channel “Murmansk accident emergency”.
According to the agency’s estimates, this is the eighth crash of aircraft of this type since the beginning of 2015, and three such fighters have crashed in 2022.
