Tsybaneva is accused of desecrating burial places for reasons of political hatred or enmity (paragraph «b» of part 2 of article 244 of the Criminal Code).

The reason for the case was a note with the words: “Parents of a maniac, take him to your place. There is so much pain and trouble from him, the whole world is praying for his death. Death to Putin. You raised a freak and a murderer.» On October 6, 2022, she was found by a cemetery guard at the grave of Putin's parents.

Already on October 12, the court sent Tsybaneva under house arrest, and soon her preventive measure was changed to prohibit certain actions, although the investigation initially demanded that the pensioner be sent to a pre-trial detention center.

“I didn’t even understand what I was doing. I wrote a note in which I could not remember at all what was written there. That is, it was because of fear, — the Petersburger explained her act. “I was afraid for my relatives that a nuclear war might start, but I have grandchildren.”
