BERLIN, Jun 16 Germany to deliver to Ukraine «immediately» 64 additional missiles for Patriot air defense systems, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Friday on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.
«Germany will provide Ukraine with an additional 64 guided missiles for the Patriot air defense system,» the DPA agency reports the minister's words. According to Pistorius, the missiles will be delivered «immediately.» He stressed that this delivery is important for providing «sustainable support» to Kyiv.
Earlier, Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect. Lavrov also stated that the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.
