MOSCOW, June 23 Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko said on Friday that exercises will be held in the coming days to respond to possible threats in the event of an emergency at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky, in an interview with the American television channel NBC News, said that Russia wants to undermine the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant because it is not interested in security in Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that this is another lie on the part of the Ukrainian authorities.
“In the coming days, we will conduct appropriate exercises with road closures and the corresponding reversal of sanitary checkpoints where we will check radiation. All the radiation measurement equipment that we have is calibrated and ready to go. But we want to once again group all services for so that we can clearly respond to any challenges,» Klymenko said on the air of the All-Ukrainian telethon, commenting on Zelensky's recent statement about the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
According to him, as of today, headquarters have also been deployed, which include power engineers, doctors, police, employees of the state emergency service, in order to «have been developed and communicated to our citizens and the rules of conduct in the event of an emergency.»
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity — the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became the property of the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Kiev regime seeks to create the appearance of a threat of a nuclear catastrophe by continuing to purposefully shell the ZNPP. The International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly stated the need to create a security zone around the ZNPP. br>
