MOSCOW, June 26< /strong> The theme of the Tolstoy Festival 2023 is Anna Karenina. The Bolshoi Theater will bring the ballet of the same name by John Neumeier to the show for the first time. This was told by the organizers of the event at a press conference on the announcement of the theme and program, the correspondent reports.
The production will be shown on July 8 and 9 in the open air. Specially built scene. As noted by Vladimir Tolstoy, presidential adviser for culture, it will repeat the size and parameters of the stage of the Bolshoi Theater. Previously, such large-scale venues were not created at the festival.

More than 120 artists will perform. According to the press service, the Prime Minister, Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Volchkov, leading soloist Kristina Kretova, first soloist Alexander Vodopetov and others will take the stage.

"The author of the production, John Neumeier, is incredibly fond of Russian culture and has made many performances based on the books of Russian writers. Among them "Seagull" at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater, "Tatiana" according to «Eugene Onegin» Pushkin and «Anna Karenina». He always tried to visit the places where the creators of these works lived. And today the Bolshoi Theater pays tribute to these places. Also in the program of the festival is a performance-promenade in the theater genre of the subject «Bitter Radish» by Mikhail Plutakhin. Guests of the show will see «The Ant Brotherhood», the second season of the play-walk of the Brusnikin Workshop theater directed by Alina Nasibullina. There will also be a production of «Mara» by choreographer Albina Vakhitova.
For the first time there will be a film program at the festival. In addition, an educational program is planned. The curator is the great-great-granddaughter of Lev Nikolaevich Fekla Tolstaya. Lectures will be given by the writer Pavel Basinsky, literary critic Daria Eremeeva, and Galina Fedoseeva, senior researcher at the Yasnaya Polyana museum-estate of Leo Tolstoy. Interactive games will be held, artist Alexander Sinyakovich and illustrator Ekaterina Gushchina will participate.

This year marks the 195th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy's birth, 150th anniversary of the writer's work on the novel «Anna Karenina».
The Tolstoy Festival will take place from 7 to 9 July 2023 at the Yasnaya Polyana estate.
The start of the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition was previously announced.
