MINSK, 30 Jun. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is confident that nuclear weapons located on the territory of the republic will never have to be used, but they must be placed in the country, President Belt quotes.
“Today they are talking about nuclear weapons that were brought to the Republic of Belarus. There is no need to criticize anyone, I have already spoken about this. It was my most cruel initiative. And the more we live, the more we are convinced that we should have it, in Belarus, in a safe place. And I am sure that we will never have to use it while we have it, and the enemy will never set foot on our land,” the agency quotes Lukashenko as saying.
“Once I told you at a big forum: if you don’t know what to do in this or that situation, and your enemies are shouting, do it the other way around. If they shout that nuclear weapons are bad, do the opposite,” – the Belarusian leader sneered.
He also recalled how the opposition once shouted: “We will come to power, we will destroy the Belarusian nuclear power plant, we do not need it.”
“Why did they say that? Because they were told from there, and above all from our neighbors – Poland, Lithuania. And what do they say today? Lithuania has planned the construction of a new nuclear power plant. Instead of the one that was destroyed. Poland plans to build two or three. And why were our fools told: “You don't need to build, you need to destroy”? And nobody needs competitors. Anyone who today does not live with breakthrough, modern, super-modern technologies is a decaying, dying state, “said the President of Belarus.
In the same way, oppositionists are talking about nuclear weapons today, the Belarusian leader summed up.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow and Minsk agreed that, without violating international obligations, they would deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. Putin explained that Russia is not transferring its nuclear weapons to Belarus, but is doing what the US has been doing for decades. Putin said in June that in accordance with the Belarusian-Russian plans, the first nuclear charges were delivered to the territory of Belarus, and the plans would be fully implemented by the end of the year.
