Alumni of the Faculty of Journalism of St Petersburg University held a rally in support of Yelena Milashina, a columnist for Novaya Gazeta, who was beaten in Chechnya. This is reported by the correspondent of «Paper».
Two students during the graduation ceremony unfurled a poster on the street with a photograph of Milashina taken at the Botkin hospital in Moscow after the attack. The girl's poster was signed with the words «The face of Russian journalism.»
Journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who were severely beaten by masked men in Grozny on July 4, were taken from Vladikavkaz to a Moscow hospital by a special plane. There, Milashina was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, fractures of the bones of the hands and bruises. Nemov was diagnosed with multiple hematomas and a stab wound.
The evening before, the Department of the Investigative Committee for Chechnya reported on the initiation of a criminal case into the attack. The attack was qualified under articles on causing harm to health of medium and mild severity (points «d», «e», «h» of part 2 of article 112, points «a», «c» of part 2 of article 115 of the Criminal Code).
