
MOSCOW, Aug 1 There are six people in the Indonesian province of West Papua , including a child, died due to the drought that swept the region, according to the Indonesian portal Grid.Id.
«As a result of the drought, six people died and people in the affected areas went hungry. Six residents, including five adults and a child, died, presumably due to diarrhea and dehydration,» said Willem, regent of Punchak district in West Papua province Wandik.
It is specified that the victims of the disaster experienced symptoms such as general weakness, diarrhea, fever, aphthous ulcers and headaches.
The head of the Indonesian Disaster Data Center, Abdul Muhari, confirmed that the drought in Punchak County has led to crop failure. A total of 7,500 residents were affected by the drought to one degree or another.
It is reported that the Indonesian authorities have decided to send emergency humanitarian aid to the province. The corresponding decree of the country's President Joko Vidodr was issued on Tuesday. The aid package will include food, clothing, blankets and medical supplies.
