
ALMA-ATA, Aug 1 Major fire casualties , which occurred on Tuesday in a multi-storey building in Alma-Ata, no, 31 people were taken to hospitals, including 16 children, the press service of the city health department said.
The press service of the City Department of Emergency Situations previously reported that at 17.10 (14.10 Moscow time) an apartment caught fire in a 16-storey building in one of the microdistricts of Alma-Ata, after which the fire engulfed electric cables in the elevator shaft of the building. Rescuers reported more than 300 people had been evacuated from the house.
«As of 18.30 (15.30 Moscow time), 31 people were delivered to the city's hospitals, 16 of them were children. No deaths were registered among the victims,» the city health department said in a statement.
Earlier, videos appeared on social networks showing how several people jumped out of a burning house onto mattresses and carpets stretched below. Also on the video was the moment of saving a child in this way.
