MOSCOW, Sep 4, Alena Sulizova. Former football player of the Moscow ” Spartak” Yegor Titov said that calling 49 players to the training camp of the national team is not a particularly necessary measure, but young players will have a chance to prove themselves.
Earlier, the coaching staff of the Russian national team announced the call for the September training camp of 49 players. On September 7, a group of players from the Russian national team led by Valery Karpin will play an away test match with the Egyptian Olympic team in Suez. Another control match with the Egyptian team will take place on September 11, and on September 12 the Russian team will meet on the road with the Qatar team in Al Wakra.
“The first thing that comes to mind is that two different squads will play in two matches. Well, as they say, we need to give young people more chances to try what the national team is. On the one hand, I agree. On the other hand, 49 people – this is a lot, of course. If it were a training camp, where 5-6 matches, most likely, yes, the necessary measure. But 49 for two matches is a question. Again, the coaching staff is the most experienced – Valery Karpin, Yuri Nikiforov, Viktor Onopko. People know “What are they doing. Considering that we do not have qualifying games for the European and World Championships, experiments are possible. I wonder how it will all end,” Titov said.
“I can't rate the same Egyptian team in any way. I didn't think that we would play with them, especially since this is the Olympic team. But in our today's realities, if there are such rivals, we thank them very much for playing with us You have to play with any opponent,” the agency's interlocutor added.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) issued a joint statement in February 2022, according to which Russian teams and clubs have been suspended from participation in international competitions for an indefinite period due to the events in Ukraine. After the start of the sanctions, the Russian team played five friendly matches against the teams of Kyrgyzstan (2:1), Tajikistan (0:0), Uzbekistan (0:0), Iran (1:1) and Iraq (2:0).
