MINSK, September 7Belarusian and Russian scientists discussed cooperation in the field of Antarctic research in Minsk, the Russian side promised to continue to support their Belarusian colleagues in this area, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus reported on Thursday.
“”On September 6-7, 2023, representatives of the Institute of the Arctic and Antarctic of Roshydromet visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The purpose of the visit was to review the progress of implementation in 2022–2023 of the action plan for the implementation of the agreement on cooperation in the Antarctic between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation. Discussions were held plans for scientific and logistics cooperation for 2023 – 2024. The focus was also on discussing issues related to the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition,” the press service said in a statement.
It is noted that on September 7, an extended meeting of the interdepartmental commission of Belarus on Antarctic issues and a meeting of the bilateral Belarusian-Russian working group were held to discuss the results of the implementation in 2022-2023 of the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in Antarctica. Logistics issues regarding the delivery of cargo and members of the Belarusian Antarctic expedition in the 2023-2024 season were discussed.
“”Belarusian scientists expressed gratitude to their Russian colleagues for their constant assistance and spoke about plans to send the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition in November this year, the further development of the Belarusian station, and the scientific content of new programs.
