Senior NASA officials say the agency's space launch mission is a heavy rocket designed to support the ambitious Artemis program to establish a base on Moon — became «inaccessible». So did the U.S. Government Accountability Office, reports CNN.
A report making spending on the SLS program concludes that senior NASA officials consider the rocket unsustainable «at current cost levels.» The report does not specify which officials (or how many) made the claims.
However, the report says that NASA «recognizes the need to improve accessibility.»
According to the GAO, this the plan includes efforts to «stabilize the flight schedule», improve efficiency, «encourage innovation», and «adjust acquisition strategies to reduce cost risk.»
The SLS rocket is at the heart of NASA's Artemis program, the agency's flagship program for return of humans to the lunar surface this decade, which also includes various exploration and scientific missions aimed at establishing a permanent lunar settlement.
