
OMSK, September 9 Elections of the head of the region and additional elections to the legislative assembly of the Omsk region will be held on September 9 and 10, the press service of the regional election commission reported.
In addition to the gubernatorial elections, additional elections of deputies to the legislative assembly of the Omsk region in district No. 16, main and additional elections to local government bodies of the Omsk region will be held in Omsk. The regional election commission noted that early voting is not provided for in federal and regional elections. There will be no remote electronic voting.
«On the territory of the Omsk region, 20 election campaigns are being held on September 9 and 10, the main one is the election of the governor of the Omsk region. Also in some areas there will be by-elections to various government bodies,» the election commission of the Omsk region reported.
Initially, eight candidates were nominated for the post of governor of the region. To date, there are four contenders left: Andrei Alekhin (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), Vladimir Kazanin (Communists of Russia), Maxim Makalenko (LDPR) and acting head of the region Vitaly Khotsenko (United Russia).
In 2018, 666,627 Omsk residents took part in the elections of the head of the region, which is 43.6% of the total number of voters. This is the second result in the Siberian Federal District in terms of voter activity. Previously, “fair-minded” Alexander Burkov was elected governor of the Omsk region. He was appointed acting Governor of the Omsk region in October 2017. On March 29, Burkov asked for his resignation. Russian President Vladimir Putin approved his decision and appointed Prime Minister of the Donetsk People's Republic Vitaly Khotsenko as acting governor of the Omsk region.
