The dance duet of Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Valery Angelopol only performed for one season at the adult level in Russia and, By and large, I didn’t win anything. Surprisingly, the parting of the partners caused such a resonance, as if they were the absolute favorites of the upcoming Olympics. Coach Anzhelika Krylova told some details and shared her plans for the upcoming season.
— In my opinion, everyone, from current skaters to veterans, spoke about the breakup of the duo. Was such a fuss necessary?
“I think it's time to stop it. How important are comments and opinions when Valera came and said: «I don't want to ride with Vasilisa!» And that could be the point. The contract, mutual reproaches and claims had no meaning after this phrase. I don’t know who influenced Angelopol’s decision, but the day before the incident, the guys worked normally in training. Then Valera came with a contract and set an ultimatum: “I will continue our career together only on these conditions.”
— Is it possible compare Valery's behavior with Oksana Grischuk's quirks that happened before your eyes over many years?
— Grischuk, who trained with us on the same ice in the group of Natalia Linichuk, did not delve into the quirks. Valera, perhaps, everything was softer. Only Oksana had a goal to which she went without choosing means. Grischuk wanted to become an Olympic champion and she did it. Angelopolus was constantly being carried from side to side. In the summer, he did things far from figure skating. No, I don't mind, but you need to prioritize. If you want to achieve something in sports, it should be in the first place. Valera at some point began to lose his bearings. Although I went to training, I worked without proper concentration. And it seems to me that I should not have separated my name from the name of my partner. Only the two of them were something in figure skating. Vasilisa still reacted quite calmly to everything.
— At the duet of Annabel Morozova and Igor Eremenko, who came to your group this summer, the situation with “divorce” «Kaganovskaya was somehow reflected?
— Don't think. Annabelle and Igor are adults who know what they want and know how to get it. I have a work ethic. It's a pity that Anglelopola and Kaganovskaya lost a season that could have been a breakthrough. The dances that were staged back in the spring, and work on which were in full swing, were definitely the best in a short joint career. I do not rule out that at the end of this season Vasilisa will perform them with a new partner. It’s good that Valera came with his statements now, and not before some stage of the Grand Prix.
— Did Morozova and Eremenko come to you with dances already choreographed for the new season?
— So ready that I won’t change anything. Yes, and you should not do it now, when the test skates are ahead. We polish all the elements, we are constantly in touch with Nikolai Morozov. This is my only adult duet. The rest of the juniors and even the “novices”.
— Will Kaganovskaya remaining in your group look for a Russian partner?
— Only Russian. The process is not easy, you need to find a guy who is suitable in height, style, and character. I hope that at the end of the season Vasilisa will already compete with a new partner. I don’t want to waste time.
— There is talk about inviting Dario Chirisano. Is this true?
— It would be simply illogical if we did not consider Dario as a potential partner for Vasilisa. According to anthropometry and the level of skating, they could match each other. Chirizano played at tournaments in Russia last season and did not fall out of the competitive rhythm. Only now Dario is skating with a Czech partner and plans to compete for this country. While we are thinking and not in a hurry.
— What must coincide for a dance duet to work out?
— First of all, the choice of partners must be conscious. Not only physical and technical data must match. An important role is played by the similarity of temperaments, communication style and even personal sympathy. That is why you cannot form a duet in a hurry.
—Will you advise Vasilisa to limit her activity on social networks at least for a while?
—This the process cannot be controlled. I just want to end all discussions related to the breakup and start working. I understand that journalists are very interested in scandals, but we must remember that we are talking about living people. Especially young people.
— For the new season, you have staged programs for sports couples Anastasia Mishina/Alexander Gallyamov and Alexandra Boykova/Dmitry Kozlovsky. Are you continuing to work on them?
— No, such requests have not been received from either skaters or coaches. Although they worked together for only a few days, now it is time for the choreographers who are working with Tamara Moskvina and Eteri Tutberidze. It will be interesting to see at the test screenings what changes were made.
— Did anyone else get the programs?
— There was a proposal from Svetlana Sokolovskaya staged Sofia Samodelkina’s programs, but to do this she had to leave her group and fly to her training camp. I had to refuse. But together with Sokolovskaya, we encouraged Mark Kondratyuk to perform an exhibition number in a style unusual for him. For a show in Mongolia, I staged him a number based on the hit “Genghis Khan,” which was performed in Mongolian. Kondratyuk was a wild success in Ulaanbaatar.
