VORONEZH, September 11Anthrax was confirmed in all eight people hospitalized in Voronezh from the Bogucharsky district of the region, where two foci of the disease were identified, a representative of the regional health department said.
Two outbreaks of anthrax were discovered last week in the Bogucharsky district of the Voronezh region, as a result of which quarantine was introduced in certain territories of the Bogucharsky and Kantemirovsky districts. Doctors from new places where anthrax appeared have hospitalized eight people. The cause of the spread of the disease was the cutting of the carcass of an infected animal. As of last Friday morning, the ulcer was confirmed in five people, and by Friday evening – in seven.
“According to information from the emergency hospital No. 8, as of September 11, eight cases of anthrax infection in residents of the Bogucharsky district were laboratory confirmed. All patients are in a condition of moderate severity. In addition, a resident of the Paninsky district continues treatment in the hospital,” – the agency's interlocutor said.
On the evening of August 20, the authorities of the Paninsky district of the Voronezh region reported the appearance of an anthrax outbreak. A state of emergency was introduced in the area. The regional office of Rospotrebnadzor announced a case of human anthrax in the Paninsky district after cutting up the carcass of an infected animal. According to the Veterinary Department of the Voronezh Region, the man was hospitalized on August 18 with suspected anthrax. Doctors assessed his condition as moderate.
In addition, on August 22, it became known about an outbreak of anthrax in the building of the “1000 Little Things” market in Voronezh. 14 product samples were taken from the market storage chambers, and according to the results of the research, genetic material of the anthrax causative agent was found in two beef samples. Dangerous products were destroyed, and restrictions imposed in the market building and in the surrounding area were lifted on September 1.
