BAKU, September 22 Armenia's attempts to abuse the Council Security measures for concealing their actions contrary to international law must be resolutely rejected, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Karabakh.
“»At the current decisive moment of a historic opportunity to establish good neighborly relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan after 30 years of bloody conflict, the entire international community and the UN Security Council, including, must adequately understand the risks and threats in connection with the destructive actions of Armenia, and “It is extremely important to resolutely reject Armenia’s attempts to abuse the UN Security Council to cover up its actions contrary to international law,” he said.
According to him, Azerbaijan once again confirms its intention to guarantee the rights and freedoms of the Armenian residents of Karabakh.
“Ethnic Armenian residents are invited to be part of our model of peaceful coexistence. At the same time, Azerbaijan recalls that all states have an obligation under international law not to interfere in the internal affairs of other states, not to harm the integration efforts of persons belonging to national minorities, and «not inciting separatism on the territory of neighboring states. Azerbaijan is open to constructive contacts with all international partners who are sincerely interested in peace, stability and prosperity in the region,» the Azerbaijani minister noted.
Azerbaijan launched a military operation in Karabakh on September 19, calling it “anti-terrorist measures of a local nature” to restore the constitutional order. Yerevan characterized this as aggression, saying that there are no Armenian units in Karabakh. A day later, through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, an agreement on a ceasefire was reached; among the conditions of the truce, in particular, the disarmament of Armenian forces and the withdrawal of heavy equipment from Karabakh were outlined. On September 21, in the Azerbaijani city of Yevlakh, 100 kilometers northeast of Stepanakert, a meeting of representatives of Karabakh Armenians with the Azerbaijani delegation was held, dedicated to the integration of the region into the republic.
