Hungary has no plans to enter into new energy contracts with Russia

BUDAPEST, September 27 Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó said that during his visit to Russia he will meet with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, will discuss issues of energy cooperation between Moscow and Budapest, but does not plan to conclude new contracts, since existing long-term agreements remain in force.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister recalled that he accepted the invitation to attend the Russian Energy Week in Moscow on October 13.
«I will meet with Deputy Prime Minister Novak, responsible for energy, and we will negotiate our energy cooperation. But we do not need any new agreements, because our existing contracts are on the supply of nuclear fuel, on the construction of nuclear power plants, on the supply of gas and oil are in force… for a long time,” Szijjártó said, speaking at a press conference of the foreign ministers of the informal group Central 5 (C5), which includes the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Austria. The press conference was broadcast on the Youtube channel of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

Szijjártó previously said that Hungary is better prepared for winter than other European countries thanks to continued gas supplies from Russia.
