Nurmagomedov in the Bellator Grand Prix final! The American surrendered before the fight

In San Diego (USA) came to an end Bellator's most promising tournament in 2023: the event was historic, the 300th. In the main bout of the evening of fights in California, Russian Usman Nurmagomedov kept a zero in the “defeat” column and, without any problems defending the title of promotion champion in the lightweight division, reached the Grand Prix final.
18-0. In pursuit of 29-0 KhabibDespite all the rumors surrounding the sale of Bellator (the Professional Fighters League, which sheltered the controversial ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, is in negotiations to buy a rival league from Paramount – it will have to shell out about half a billion dollars), the American promotion continues to organize tournaments and doesn’t seem to be going to end its 15-year history. To the delight of the fans, the 300th event included three title fights – there could have been four if the confrontation between Ryan Bader and Linton Wessell had not broken down due to the latter’s health problems.

Russian fans are pleased that the anniversary tournament the organization, which banned showing its events in our country a year and a half ago, came up with Vadim Nemkov at the head of the men's rating, regardless of weight categories (P4P) and Usman Nurmagomedov on the Bellator 300 poster.

In the main event, the undefeated brother of Khabib Nurmagomedov with the Bellator lightweight title was opposed by Brent Primus, a former champion with a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu… And a long-past fighting peak. Just one fight ago, he lost ahead of schedule to the Russian Alexander Chablius, but thanks to his status and a big name by league standards, he still received an invitation to the Grand Prix. It is not surprising that the 38-year-old MMA veteran from the States opened as a terrible underdog (the odds on Usman were less than 1.1).

Primus, contrary to forecasts, lasted all 25 minutes until the judges' decision. But the fight was disgusting: the American either played the role of a punching bag, taking kicks to the body, or unsuccessfully “dry” the fight on the ground by holding the opponent. For which, we note, the fighters were whistled at the Pechanga arena more than once. But it was worth booing only the challenger, who, even having lost outright in four rounds, resigned himself and did not rush to attack in the fifth. Usman gave his best as the situation required. Without showing even half of his capabilities, the Russian confidently beat the American (50-45 on all three cards), defended his belt for the second time and, more importantly, made it to the Grand Prix final.
Now the talented Dagestani has 18 wins in 18 professional fights (and a self-explanatory 7-0 in Bellator).

Before the semifinals, Usman said that he would like to compete with the “good and tough” Chablius. We are looking forward to the Russian final no less: Usman is already waiting for a fight for a million dollars, while Alexander needs to go through Patrick Freire on November 18 to fight his compatriot. The same Brazilian from whom Khabib’s brother took the title in November 2022.
Two women’s “titles” at Bellator 300:

  • Known for The famous Brazilian Cris Cyborg's dominance in the UFC ended everything in the first round. As part of the co-main event of the evening, the featherweight title holder knocked out Cat Zingano and inflicted the American's first Bellator defeat. Chris herself defended her belt for the fifth time;
  • Before that, another knockout (technical) was achieved by the American Liz Carmouche. The former contender for the UFC title in the final fifth round broke the resistance of compatriot Ilima-Lei MacFarlane with a killer low kick and defended the title in the flyweight division for the third time.
