Rector of Moscow State University spoke about technologies for creating vaccines

MOSCOW, October 6The advantages of mRNA vaccines will only be if they are vaccines against cancer, where a powerful short-term response to the drug is needed, the rector said Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy.
““If m-RNA has any advantages, it will only be in terms of creating vaccines against cancer, where a very powerful short-term response to the administered vaccine drug is needed, and the “side” is not of great importance,” Sadovnichy said in during the opening of the festival SCIENCE 0+.
He noted that in the world today there are two technologies for vaccination against coronavirus, one based on mRNA, which was awarded the Nobel Prize, and the other based on vector adenoviruses, it was developed in Russia, at the Gamaleya Institute.

At its meeting, the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences was unanimous that he certainly deserves this prize for creating a vaccine against Covid,» emphasized the rector of Moscow State University.
The 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to biochemist Katalin Karikó (Hungary) and immunologist Drew Weissman (USA) for their discoveries in the field of modification of nucleic acid bases, which allowed the development of mRNA vaccines. The work of scientists helped in the creation of vaccines against coronavirus by Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer. There are no such drugs in Russia yet.
