MURMANSK, October 24 More than 100 children and adults were evacuated from a kindergarten in Novodvinsk due to a fire that broke out in the laundry due to the accidental activation of an electric heater , where for some reason the laundry bags were stored, reports the State Emergency Service for the Arkhangelsk Region.
The emergency occurred in the Cheburashka kindergarten. The building is equipped with an automatic fire alarm system with output to the fire department communications point — the system was triggered, and the fire signal was instantly sent to emergency services. The kindergarten workers repeated the alarm message over the phone.
«Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that there was smoke in the laundry room. The administration of the institution organized the evacuation of 83 children and 27 adults to fresh air air,» the message says.
The fire was promptly discovered and extinguished, there were no casualties.
As noted by the department, the cause of the incident was an electric heater for heating water. The equipment had not been used for its intended purpose for a long time, and the institution’s employees kept bags inside for collecting laundry.
«Despite this, the titanium was not de-energized. According to preliminary information, today (Tuesday) morning workers accidentally switched the power switch, the titanium heated up and things inside began to smolder,» the Ministry of Emergency Situations explained.
