As MK learned, the accident happened in one of the houses on Khoroshevskoye Highway. The lifeless body of 75-year-old Viktor Smagin was discovered by passers-by on the street under the windows of a high-rise building. Eyewitnesses called the police and ambulance doctors, who confirmed death.
On the table in the loggia of the former liquidator, a suicide note was found with the man’s last experiences and a request for forgiveness. A few days before the tragedy, the pensioner told his wife that he had felt several more tumors. On the evening of October 22, the woman promised that they would go together for an examination and find out the exact diagnosis. After the conversation, Viktor Grigorievich, in a depressed state, went to his room to sleep. On the morning of October 23, the wife got out of bed, checked that the light was on in her husband’s room, and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Then the pensioner went to the man’s room and saw that he was not there.
The health of Viktor Grigorievich, the former shift supervisor of the 4th unit, deteriorated back in those ill-fated times when the accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. On April 26, 1986, he was supposed to replace a colleague at 8 a.m., but at 1:30 a.m. a disaster occurred at the station. In the morning, going out onto the balcony of his apartment on the 14th floor, Smagin saw the destroyed central hall of the 4th block. Arriving at the station, Viktor Grigorievich entered the territory and took part in eliminating the consequences of the disaster.
Since then, the man has undergone seven operations. He had a terrible diagnosis: radiation sickness. Every year, doctors sent the patient for treatment to special centers, but they failed to overcome the serious illness.
