SAMARKAND, November 5.The volume of fish production and a successful salmon run in Russia this year create the preconditions for a reduction in prices for pink salmon, which has already lost value among fishermen. Rosrybolovstvo is also expecting a reduction in the price of red caviar, said the head of the department, Ilya Shestakov.
“
"From the point of view of the volumes of catch and production within the framework of the salmon fishing season, of course, all the prerequisites are there for, at a minimum, pink salmon to decrease in price. <…> Because for fishermen, the price has already dropped by about one and a half times,” he said on the sidelines of the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum.
Shestakov clarified that there really is a lot of fish and now we should hope that retailers will react as well will reduce prices.
“We have a very good catch, production volume has also increased. Therefore, the price of pink salmon caviar should definitely decrease,” added the head of Rosrybolovstvo.
The department clarified that the volume of salmon caviar production in January-September 2023 amounted to 21.1 thousand tons, which is 2.7 times more than for the same period in 2022, and 3% more than in January-September 2021 (20.6 thousand tons). In September, Shestakov did not rule out that the production of red caviar in the country could double in 2023 due to a successful salmon run, although the price was expected to be quite low.
In 2022, Russia produced 10 thousand tons of salmon caviar, and in 2021 — about 23 thousand tons. According to the Fishing Union, the demand for red caviar on the domestic market is usually estimated at approximately 16-17 thousand tons per year.
