MOSCOW, Nov. 9Payment for metro travel using biometric data is planned to be launched in six Russian cities in 2024 — these are St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Novosibirsk, Vladislav Povolotsky, General Director of JSC Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT), told reporters at Finopolis forum site.

In addition, together with the Ministry of Transport of Russia, under the auspices of a priority project of the Russian government, next year we planned to provide the possibility of payment in six cities. These are Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Novosibirsk,» Povolotsky said.
Road maps developed to address this issue have already been confirmed in Kazan, Samara and Yekaterinburg. In the near future, the CBT plans to approve roadmaps with other regions.
In October, users of the State Services portal became able to register biometric data in a simplified format without using a foreign passport. To do this, you only need a verified account on the portal and a smartphone. Users who register data in this way will have access to a number of services by the end of the year, including purchases in stores and on the Internet in the amount of up to 2.5 thousand rubles, payment for travel on public transport, and access to the office. The list of services available after simplified biometric registration will expand.
From June 1, the law came into force, according to which biometric personal data will now be processed only within the Unified Biometric System. Banks and other organizations that store biometrics had until September 30, 2023 to transfer this data. A person can refuse to register biometrics through the MFC if he does not plan to use such technology in the future.
