“The salary will be increased by 400 rubles”
A scandal broke out in Orenburg after the words of the regional Minister of Education Alexei Pakhomov about the impossibility of raising the salaries of local teachers to the Moscow level, otherwise “they will go into the education system for a long ruble, and not because there is a calling to teach children.” A teacher from Orenburg announced salaries in the region and invited the minister to live on this money.

After the scandalous speech of the Minister of Education in the Orenburg region, the regional government stood up for the official. They say that the speaker was misunderstood; the minister was not talking about the refusal to increase teachers’ salaries, but wanted to explain that teachers’ incomes meet the requirements.
A teacher from Orenburg with 17 years of experience commented on the situation:
– I work 36 hours a week, I have the highest category. The real salary, without incentives, is 36 thousand rubles, that’s what I get in my hands,” says the teacher. – Incentives pay differently: sometimes 2000 rubles, sometimes 4000-5000. But according to our officials, we get 41 thousand. It doesn’t work out as much, no matter how you look at it, even with my highest category. Theoretically, at the very least you can survive on 36 thousand rubles, pensioners manage to survive on 20 thousand…
Our interlocutor listed what the money is spent on: “We pay the mortgage — 13 thousand, travel to work is 2500, plus utilities – 5500. The rest is for food and clothing. You can’t even dream about any vacation trips. I want to invite the minister to live on this salary himself.
All the teachers in the city are grinding on this topic. People on social networks are afraid to speak out: they might fire you. But in the comments under the video of the minister’s speech, city residents ask him to resign.”
Recently, local media covered the problem of a shortage of teachers in Orenburg. The publications came out with headlines that due to a shortage of personnel, classes are taught by students.
“Many teachers quit, cannot cope with the workload, and do not want to work for a meager salary. We actually work seven days a week. We do so much unnecessary paperwork: constant reports, checks, preparation for lessons… There are a lot of vacancies in the region, no one is applying,” says the Orenburg teacher. – Teachers substitute for non-core subjects. Conventionally, a mathematics teacher can teach physics, music…
Payment for one substitute lesson is on average 100 rubles, if the teacher has a category. If a young specialist without category and experience replaces them, they pay even less.
The regional government claims that in fact teachers’ salaries are increased in accordance with decrees. Moreover, on the initiative of the governor, she was also increased.
“From October 1, the base salary was actually increased,” the woman agrees. — The rate was, it seems, 8 thousand — they added 628 rubles. The basic salary is 100 percent of the payment for one rate, which is 18 hours of work per week. Additional payments for length of service and category are then added to this amount.
Conventionally, a teacher with a workload of 22 hours will increase his salary by approximately 2,000 rubles. And our salaries actually increase twice a year, but these are ridiculous amounts — on average by 400 and 650 rubles.
