The investigative court of the Kazakh city of Almaty placed under extraditional arrest of Yakut anti-war activist Aikhal Ammosov (Igor Ivanov), detained at the request of Russia. This was reported by his lawyer Murat Adam.
As Adam writes, Ammosov’s defense is now waiting for the court order to appeal it.
“The only thing that reassures me for now is that until our authorities consider the application for asylum, no one will extradite him at the request of Russia,” the lawyer wrote on his Facebook.
Last year, Ammosov was fined three times in administrative cases of “discrediting” the army because of his anti-war actions , after which in August a case was opened against him under a similar criminal article (280.3 of the Criminal Code). At the end of the year, the activist left Russia and went to Kazakhstan.
Already in February 2023, Yakut investigators opened a new case against the musician — about justifying terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). The Criminal Code of Kazakhstan has a similar article, as opposed to the article about “discrediting” the army, which allowed Russia to seek his extradition. As a result, Ammosov was detained in October and sent to a pre-trial detention center in Almaty. In early November, he received a certificate of asylum-seeker status from the Kazakh authorities.
Yakut punk against war. The author of the poster “The groom has arrived” is being tried in a criminal case for “discrediting” the army
