MOSCOW, December 2 Teams of Spain, Croatia, Italy and Albania were placed in the “group of death” at the 2024 European Football Championship following the draw, which took place on Saturday at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
The teams will compete in Group B. The Italian team is the current European champion, the Croatian team won silver and bronze at the last two World Cups, the Spanish team is a three-time European champion, a world champion and the current winner of the UEFA Nations League.
Composition of the remaining groups:
- Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland;
- Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England;
- Group D: winner of path A, the Netherlands, Austria, France;
- group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, winner of path B;
- Group F: Turkey, winner of path C, Portugal, Czech Republic.
The semi-finals of the playoffs of path A will be played by the teams of Poland and Estonia, as well as Wales and Finland. On Route B, the teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine, as well as Israel and Iceland will meet. On Path C, the teams of Georgia and Luxembourg, as well as Greece and Kazakhstan will meet. The matches will take place in March.
The European Championship will be held from June 14 to July 14, 2024 in Germany.
In February 2022, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international competitions for an indefinite period due to the events in Ukraine. In this regard, in September 2022, UEFA did not allow the Russian team to participate in the draw for the qualifying tournament for the 2024 European Championship.
