The Russian Museum presented an exhibition of works by Arkhip Kuindzhi in Saransk

ST. PETERSBURG, December 4The State Russian Museum presented a large-scale exhibition of works by Arkhip Kuindzhi in Saransk, the museum’s press service reported.
The exhibition opened at the Mordovian Republican Museum of Fine Arts named after S.D. Erzi (Saransk).

“”The exhibition includes 40 works by the outstanding master of Russian landscape painting of the 1870-1900s from the collection of the Russian Museum, representing both the early stage of the artist’s work and the heyday of his fame, and the period of his mysterious “recluse,” the message says.
Kuindzhi did not receive a systematic art education, but he was destined to discover new artistic means for expressing and conveying lighting effects in painting.

In 1886, Kuindzhi purchased a plot of land near the sea in Crimea, where he created dozens of sketches of southern nature close to his spirit (“Cypress trees on the seashore. Crimea”, “Mountain slope. Crimea”, “Mountain valley. Crimea”). At the turn of the century, the artist often painted mountain landscapes of the Caucasus (“Kazbek in the evening”, “Elbrus”, “Snowy peaks. Caucasus”).
“”The high mountains captivated the master with their proximity to the sky, giving him a feeling of the unity of the universe. He loved to paint the sky: from the roof of a St. Petersburg house, from a special “nest” in a tree in the Crimea, observing the movement of clouds in the steppe (“Cloud. Sunset” , 1890s). And in 1898 in Paris, Kuindzhi even risked going up with his students in a hot air balloon,” the report says.
The exhibition will last until February 4, 2024.
