According to the constitution, presidential elections are called by the Federation Council. The upper house of parliament must make a decision no earlier than 100 and no later than 90 days before voting day.
The decision to call elections for the head of state is made by a majority vote of the total number of senators and formalized by a resolution of the Federation Council. It must be published in the media no later than five days from the date of adoption.
Russian presidential elections will be held next year. The election campaign has not yet started, Vladimir Putin has not yet announced his intention to run for this post.
As presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized, it is unlikely that anyone will be able to compete with the current head of state in electoral terms .
