The Kursk Regional Duma adopted a bill banning “inducing women to undergo abortion” in the region. This was reported on the Duma’s telegram channel.
According to the Minister of Health of the Kursk Region, Ekaterina Pismennaya, the adopted law implies “a ban on the promotion of abortion and the childfree lifestyle.” Now, according to the adopted amendments, for “inducing” an artificial termination of pregnancy, individuals will be fined in amounts from 3 to 5 thousand rubles, officials — from 10 to 20 thousand rubles, and legal entities — from 30 to 50 thousand rubles.
As Pismennaya emphasized, it is still possible to have an abortion in the region, however, most private clinics have already refused to perform this procedure, following the non-state medical institutions of Crimea. Later, private organizations in the Lipetsk region made the same decision.
The governor of the region, Roman Starovoyt, submitted the bill to the Duma for consideration. As stated in the document, the amendments are necessary to “protect the family, motherhood, paternity and childhood, preserve and protect women’s health, and reduce the negative consequences of artificial termination of pregnancy.”
Previously, fines for “inducing” abortions were imposed in Mordovia , Tver and Kaliningrad regions. At the end of November, it became known that deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region were planning to introduce a similar ban into federal legislation. Later, residents of the region spoke out against this — they signed a petition in which they called the new restrictions a violation of human rights.
