The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it will allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games in a neutral status. This was reported on the organization's website.
The release notes that all athletes must meet strict requirements to qualify. Among the 4,600 athletes from around the world who have qualified for the 2024 Olympics, only 11 individual competitors will compete under neutral flags. These are eight Russians and three Belarusians.
The IOC names some of the requirements for athletes. The document states that, in particular, participants who actively support the war will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. Athletes who have contracts with the Russian and Belarusian military, as well as with the national security authorities of these countries, will also not be selected.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris there will be no flag, anthem, flowers or any other state symbols of Russia and Belarus. None of the Russian and Belarusian officials will be invited or accredited to the Olympics.
