MOSCOW, December 8 International Olympic Committee (IOC) later will decide on a melody that will replace the anthems of Russia and Belarus at the awards ceremonies of the Games in Paris.
On Friday, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris in a neutral status.
Due to the ban on the display of national flags, symbols, and anthems, a neutral melody will have to be used for award ceremonies. The Olympic anthem cannot be used as a substitute.
Previously, at the Olympics in Tokyo and Beijing, Russian athletes performed under the abbreviation ROC (Russian Olympic Committee), and at protocol events, instead of the Russian anthem, a fragment from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 was played.
