Convicted in the case of military “fakes” Igor Baryshnikov was transferred to IK-8 in the Kaliningrad region to serve his sentence. Maria Bontzler, lawyer for the OVD-Info project, spoke about this.
At the end of June, a court in Sovetsk sentenced the activist to 7.5 years in prison because of his posts about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. At the end of November, the Kaliningrad Regional Court approved the verdict.
The defense has launched an activation procedure — recognition that a person cannot be in custody for health reasons: 64-year-old Baryshnikov has a tumor suspected of prostate cancer, and a cystoma. While in prison, the activist’s health began to rapidly deteriorate. The man's attending physician said at the trial that he could die in the colony.
During the investigation, Baryshnikov was under recognizance not to leave the place and was caring for his paralyzed 96-year-old mother. After the verdict, she was handed over to the guardianship authorities. On August 7, the woman died, and the court refused to release Baryshnikov to her funeral.
