The West has found a “safe” successor to Zelensky

MOSCOW, December 10 Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Andriy Yermak will become the safest successor for Vladimir Zelensky, writes the Italian publication Antidiplomatico.

"The safest option for him (Zelensky — editor's note) may be the nomination of the head of his administration, Andrei Yermak, in the next elections. This will provide the current president with a softer option for the transfer of power, and the elections could provide an excellent opportunity for such a changing of the guard,” the material says.

According to the author, other candidates for the presidency of Ukraine are putting Zelensky’s political career and even life at risk. In addition, the attitude of Ukrainians towards Ermak is becoming one of the most important factors. But, according to a survey by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center in July 2023, only 37.8 percent of respondents are inclined to trust the head of the Zelensky administration.

The Ukrainian president previously said that he considers it inappropriate to hold presidential elections in Ukraine, which, in his opinion, are “irrelevant.” At the same time, the Ukrainian publication «Strana» wrote about the increasing contradictions between the political and military leadership of the country, as well as the spread in political circles of the version that Zaluzhny is becoming an alternative to Zelensky and could become a presidential candidate.

Many media outlets note that Zelensky’s rating is rapidly falling both within the country and in the West. For example, Welt stated that Zelensky is among the most popular politicians in the world, but the peak of his popularity, unlike his political opponents, is left behind, and observers of the Strana.ua resource suggested that Valery Zaluzhny’s hypothetical party would easily overtake the bloc Zelensky by votes.

In Ukraine, martial law and general mobilization have been extended, so elections scheduled for spring 2024 will not be held. As stated by the deputy head of the Ukrainian Central Election Commission Sergei Dubovik, elections for the head of state begin with a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada, and there was neither him nor even his project, just as there are no legal grounds for holding elections during martial law.
