The Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk arrested Vladislav Galkin, an employee of the Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM SB RAS). As the acting chairman of the court, Elena Nefedova, told T-invariant, the scientist is suspected of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code).
When exactly Galkin was placed in a pre-trial detention center is unknown — information on cases of treason is classified. On December 6, the press service of the Novosibirsk courts announced the extension of the arrest of scientist Valery Zvegintsev and another accused, without naming the latter’s name. As T-invariant suggests, it was Galkin, who worked closely with Zvegintsev.
As the publication writes, Since 2016, Galkin has been engaged in research in the field of mechanics of supersonic flows. In one of the latest works, he and Zvegintsev described “a method for designing high-speed axisymmetric air intakes due to flow reversal in a corresponding isentropic nozzle,” which is used to create the Kinzhal, Sarmat, Zircon missiles, as well as the Avangard hypersonic complex.
Over the past two years, security forces have arrested several scientists from Siberia in the case of treason — Valery Zvegintsev, Anatoly Maslov, Alexander Shiplyuk and Dmitry Kolker. The latter died three days after his arrest in the Moscow Lefotovo pre-trial detention center from pancreatic cancer.
