The desire to “extend” the May holidays may result in a loss of money
Russians have just returned to work after the ten-day New Year holidays, but many are already making plans for the year and thinking about vacations. A common idea is to take a vacation between May 1 and May 9 in order to extend the national holidays at the expense of your “annual pay.” However, this is not at all profitable. Experts explain: if you want to not be too sad when looking at paid vacation pay, you should go for a walk in October, July or August. True, the summer months hide other financial dangers.
For those who receive a fixed salary, the amount of vacation pay is directly related to the number of working days in a particular month. The calculation of vacation pay is tied to average daily earnings. Accordingly, the best months for vacation are those in which there are no national holidays – neither March 8, nor February 23, nor June 12. In the coming 2024, such months – these are July, August and October.
As she explained in a conversation with a MK correspondent, lawyer Lyubov Shuryga, according to Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, non-working holidays are not taken into account when calculating average income.
P – If the vacation is “exciting” a holiday, for example, March 8, this day will not be paid. It will not be taken into account at all. Due to this day, you can extend your vacation and go to work a day later, but this is not profitable. In addition, there is a cost of days. The fewer working days there are in a month, the less profitable it is to go on vacation that month. May and January – the worst months for vacation, although many people find it attractive to extend the holidays and not work for almost a month, explains the expert.
The most profitable months in 2024 will be July and August, as well as October. True, in the summer months there are other problems: traditionally high competition for the opportunity to relax in the summer (especially among those employees who have children), higher prices for tickets and trips to resorts, as well as crowded conditions. The ideal option is October – In many places the velvet season is still ongoing, and schoolchildren's holidays have already ended.
– Knowing the rules for calculating vacation pay is useful, but you need to correlate them with other factors and your personal conditions – continues the lawyer. – Don't get too hung up on vacation in August. This is traditionally the highest season, and even if a person wins some amount of vacation money, he can spend much more on more expensive tickets or tour packages.
