SAMARA, January 11 A Samara resident was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general regime colony for a fire in a house in the historical center of Samara, which claimed the life of a child in January last year and women, the investigative department of the RF Investigative Committee for the Samara Region told reporters.
According to investigators, on the morning of January 11, 2023, a 37-year-old man decided to warm up the battery using a homemade torch in his apartment in a three-story building on Nekrasovskaya Street in Samara. While warming up, the flame spread to the floor and a fire started. As a result, a five-year-old girl died in an ambulance from carbon monoxide poisoning after being carried out of an apartment on the second floor of the building. A few days later, the body of a 58-year-old woman was found in the building without signs of life. The health of another 29-year-old woman was seriously harmed.
Criminal cases were initiated against a 37-year-old Samara resident under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence of two or more persons), Part 1 of Article 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing grievous harm to health by negligence), as well as Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (large-scale destruction of someone else’s property, committed through careless handling of fire).
“The court sentenced the man to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony,” says the report of the regional Sustainable Criminal Investigation Department of the Russian Federation.
