MOSCOW, January 11 The Investigative Committee detained the leader of the “Left Front” Sergei Udaltsov in the case of justifying terrorism, his lawyer Violetta Volkova said.
“The Investigative Committee drew up a report on the detention of Udaltsov,” she said. According to her, for now he is in the status of a suspect under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (justification of terrorism).
The lawyer suggested that the Basmanny Court of Moscow will choose a preventive measure for her client on January 12.
Udaltsov’s home was previously searched and he was taken in for questioning. Udaltsov was repeatedly detained in the center of Moscow for participating in uncoordinated actions and demonstrations. In the summer of 2014, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for organizing riots on Bolotnaya Square in Moscow in May 2012, as well as planning similar actions in other regions of Russia. Udaltsov was last detained in December 2023 for holding an unauthorized rally on Red Square.
