MOSCOW, January 17 The concession agreement for the modernization of the Moscow monorail will be concluded in the first quarter of 2024, the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering (MIT) corporation reported at Roscosmos).
“In the first quarter of 2024, it is planned to conclude a concession agreement between the Moscow government and a private investor on the modernization of the Moscow monorail transport system in the period 2024–2027,” the statement says.
The corporation reminded that today the monorail in Moscow operates in excursion mode.
The first stage of modernization, which will begin after determining the source of funding, will include repair and restoration work of existing electric rolling stock on the existing monorail system. In addition, from the excursion mode of operation, when only two trains operate on the route, it will be transferred to a passenger mode with five to six trains, MIT said.
At the second stage, it is planned to develop, test and put into operation unmanned trains with magnetic unloading. In the future, they should completely replace the existing fleet, and the total number of rolling stock will be increased to ten. Dispatch control systems will also be modernized and adapted for them.
The advantages of the monorail, which was once closed in Moscow, over other public transport, the Corporation called lower energy consumption compared to world analogues, low noise levels and environmental friendliness. In addition, the project is an overpass mode of transport, which does not require its integration into the existing ground infrastructure, MIT emphasized.
