As the head of Bashkortostan, I must protect the republic and people from any attempt to shake interethnic harmony — on the basis of nationality, language, faith. This is my authority, my duty,” he wrote.

Alchinov* was sentenced to four years in prison on charges of inciting hatred on ethnic grounds.
