The Colombian Foreign Ministry said that Bogota does not encourage the participation of fellow citizens in hostilities in Ukraine
The Colombian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it commented on reports of the participation of fellow citizens in hostilities in Ukraine. As RBC writes, the AP agency previously announced hundreds of retired Colombian military personnel in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“The Colombian government does not encourage or facilitate this type of activity,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Colombian department also recalled that the country had not concluded bilateral agreements that would allow citizens to participate in military operations abroad.
RBC notes that this statement was made shortly after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a conference in Moscow answered a question about foreign participants in hostilities. In particular, he expressed the opinion that “if people go there from Colombia, from other countries of Latin America, someday insight will come to them.”
