A teacher from St. Petersburg was fined 30 thousand rubles for an avatar with the coat of arms of Ukraine on VKontakte.

The Leninsky District Court of St. Petersburg fined Dmitry Burakov, associate professor of the St. Petersburg State University of Transport and Communications (PGUPS), under the protocol on “discrediting” the army (part 1 of article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code). RBC was informed about this by the press service of the city courts.

According to Fontanka, the reason for the protocol was the coat of arms of Ukraine on Burakov’s avatar on VKontakte. Under it, as the publication writes, “a text of pacifist content” was published. The associate professor clarified to the publication that he created an avatar with the Ukrainian coat of arms ten years ago, in March 2014.

Dmitry Burakov was detained the night before, April 2, at the university, when he was teaching a class to students. According to the associate professor, the security forces did not explain the reason for his detention for a long time.
