KRASNODAR, April 17 Anapa City Hall began an investigation after information emerged about the mass death of dolphins on the coast near the resort city, the press service of the city administration reported.
““The mayor’s office or specialized beach cleaning enterprises have not received such applications. We are checking the information,” the authorities said.
Head of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture of KubSU Alexei Abramchuk said that the mass death of dolphins could be associated with the frequency of storms in the region, since at this time all the fish go to the depths, so mammals and It becomes more difficult for fish-eating birds to feed themselves.
“We can assume that the animals were not going through the most favorable period due to wintering, and now due to storms. Apparently, the animals, exhausted and perhaps partly starved during the winter, did not survive the next storm and were not able to go to safer areas,” Abramchuk said .
According to him, every year the death of animals that did not survive long-term storms, including bottlenose dolphins or other dolphins, is recorded. However, in his opinion, such a massive death of animals is not normal.
Local Telegram channels reported that eyewitnesses counted about 40 dead dolphins five kilometers from the village of Blagoveshchenskaya in Anapa . We are talking about the Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, which are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
