«The fire in a shopping center in Warsaw has been localized. 58 units of equipment and about 180 rescuers are taking part in the extinguishing efforts. The chief commandant of the state fire watch is present at the scene,» the message says.
The chief commandant of the state fire watch, Mariusz Feltynowski, told reporters that the shopping center building had been destroyed. He clarified that the fire “spread instantly” due to the fact that the shopping center had “too many flammable materials, primarily textiles.”
The commandant is not yet ready to name the cause of the fire. “Such a rapid spread of fire is an unusual situation. We do not yet know what caused the fire. Experts will determine this. Perhaps the system for cutting off individual zones in the hall, which was supposed to prevent the spread of fire, did not work,” he suggested.
